3 tips to wear hats
This is a frequently asked question, maybe because people associate this accessory with me. I’m a huge fan and wear them all the time, in all shapes and materials and all year long.
First you must have “head for hats”! Really, not everyone looks good in one but, sometimes, it’s all a matter of finding the right fit for you.
And here’s my first tip – don’t be afraid (or ashamed!) to try it on. Try several shapes and sizes and do not buy just because someone tells you it looks good. Which leads me to my second tip…
Make sure that this accessory matches who you are, your personality and personal style.
A hat, just like any accessory is meant to complement your over all style. If you don’t feel yourself when wearing it, or you feel weird, like “everyone is watching me”, just forget about it.
Many people associate the use of hats with cold seasons, for extra protection and heat and have even more doubts when choosing the right fabric for warm weather. The idea of a hat is the same and, as I see it, it consistes in two factors: making a strong image and providing cover – either from the cold, or from the sun. At a time when there is so much talk about not getting too much sun, this accessory should be more and more a strong ally. From here, we go to tip number three…
How to pick the materials?
For fall / winter, prefer wool or felt. Fedora hats in leather, also work great for a bolder style. For spring / summer, prefer materials such as cotton, paper (yes!), straw or thread. And don’t think just because it’s straw, it shouts “beach”. It has everything to do with color, finish and the way you style it.
